In between seasons of The Vampire Diaries, we like to appease our craving for all things supernatural by revisiting the books upon which the show is based. And, this week, we’re relishing all the steamy, bittersweet moments from The Vampire Diaries: The Hunters: Moonsong. Sink your teeth into a piping hot farewell shared between college bound Elena Gilbert and her fangy beau Stefan Salvatore:

Elena stood and went over to wrap her arms around [Stefan]. He smelled clean and woodsy, and she nestled her head against his shoulder. “I’m coming,” she said. “It’s just hard to say good-bye, you know? Everything’s changing.”

Stefan turned toward her and caught her mouth softly in a kiss. “I know,” he said when the kiss ended, and ran his finger gently along the curve of her bottom lip.

You can probably tell from this quote that Elena leaves her Fell’s Church home in TVD: The Hunters: Moonsong. Fear not though, because in true Elena style, the pain of saying good-bye is lessened by the fact that Stefan will be by her side every step of the way. And it’s not like she’s sentenced to time in a cave full of Original coffins. She’s escaping her small town to live on campus for her first semester of college—and Damon will be close by, as well.
