The Vampire Diaries cast photos that were recently released not only featured Elena, Stefan, and Damon but Joseph Morgan as Klaus, Claire Holt as Rebekah, and Daniel Gillies as Elijah as well. So what does this all mean? While nothing in Mystic Falls is ever certain, the inclusion of the Original family members in the official promotional roundup can only mean one thing — that viewers can expect lots of drama from them throughout the show’s fourth season! And during an interview with TV Guide, Daniel Gillies seemed to share our exact sentiment. Check out what he revealed about the new villain in town and the first flashback driven episode of Season 4:
“It was the 11th century … It was an episode that depicted a brand new menace on The Vampire Diaries and not just a menace to the beautiful boys and girls of Mystic Falls, but also to the Originals. A big threat.”

Yikes! If there’s a Big Bad more vicious than Klaus roaming out there this doesn’t bode well for our beloved characters at all. Who will this “menace” be? No one knows yet but what we do know is that the episode is going to focus on Rebekah and delve into her past in order to give viewers a sense of how she came to be the reckless and destructive badass that she is today. Additionally, rumor has it that the episode is going to explore her passionate relationship with a handsome vampire hunter (named Alexander) that went from happily ever after to true tragedy so perhaps the huge “threat” stems from that!
