Which Dark Knight Rises Hero or Villain Would Each Vampire Diaries Character Be?

*Warning: Please do not read any further if you haven’t yet watched The Dark Knight Rises as this post contains spoilers!*

The Dark Knight Rises characters

Just like Gotham City, the main setting for The Vampire Diaries, Mystic Falls, is filled with heroes, villains, and — yes — modern day bad boys (and girls) with honorable intentions. Moreover, just like the mythical and grander-than-life personas of Dark Knight Rises, the thin line between good and evil is a tricky one for even the most kind-hearted of TVD residents to balance on. So in honor of Christopher Nolan’s final and epic installment of his Batman movie trilogy, we’re celebrating by doing a side-by-side comparison of some of our favorite characters from both realms!

Take a look at which characters from The Dark Knight Rises most resemble Damon Salvatore, Elena Gilbert, Katherine Pierce, Stefan Salvatore and more beloved Mystic Falls residents — and, if you have any alternate or additional suggestions, feel free to post them in the comments!

Who is Bane?

Alaric Saltzman!

Alaric turned bad and virtually indestructible in the third season of The Vampire Diaries. Before that, he wasn't always bad though -- he protected the weak and the innocent from supernatural harms much like Bane did. However, just like Bane, he turned into a monstrous terrorist leader with the goal of annihilating all those who dared to stand in his way --- but luckily for those around him he also he came equipped with a crippling weakness that led to his demise.

Who is Catwoman (aka Selina Kyle)?

Katherine Pierce!

With her slinky, sexy demeanor, impeccable stilettos, and confident attitude, Kat is the epitome of survivalist Selina Kyle otherwise known as Catwoman. And much like Catwoman, she's a tough supervillain with a vulnerable underbelly. Although Kat doesn't show it and plays it all snarky and cool, she still possesses the ability to love and has a soft spot in her heart for her long-gone family, Stefan Salvatore, and sweet human blue-eyed quarterbacks. Also, when times get tough -- even when it doesn't benefit her one bit and even if she's sometimes the root cause of the problem -- Kat has been known to lend the Salvatores and their friends a hand or two! She tries to appear selfish and self-involved but, ultimately, she's just a beautiful girl aching for a fresh start and worry-free life beneath all those tight, curve-hugging clothes. (Also, is it just us or do she and Catwoman share a fondness for masks? Hmm.)

Who is 'John Blake'?

Matt Donovan!

Blake is an honest, good-hearted guy next door who just wants to do right by his friends and town. He may be a mere human with but he has heroic intentions but refuses to resort to dark measures to achieve success against the bad guys. Sounds a lot like Matt doesn't it? (Plus, knows how to use a rifle just like Matty does!) Also, towards the end we find out that Blake is on his way to becoming a dominant player in Gotham City and we have a feeling Matt is doing the same!

Who is Alfred Pennyworth?

Damon Salvatore!

As Bruce Wayne's surrogate father figure and tireless confidant, Alfred is loyal, trustworthy, intelligent, and resourceful. Although Damon has had some iffy moments on The Vampire Diaries, people trust him to see things through. And when the going gets tough -- Damon gets creative and rises to occasion against the odds. He risks all to serve the ones he loves, whether it be his brother Stefan or his love interest Elena Gilbert. (Plus, much like Alfred, he provides a lot of cynical comic relief which is always appreciated during dangerous, menacing times!)

Who is James Gordon?

Sheriff Forbes!

Police Commissioner James Gordon is all about ridding Gotham City of dark and corrupt forces. Sheriff Forbes shares a similar outlook -- she wants Mystic Falls to be a safe place where people don't get bitten, killed, or maimed by evil supernatural creatures. They are hard-working and take their jobs seriously! Both are willing to overlook the vigilante and supernatural activity in their respective hometowns if it means getting the destructive bad guys off the streets!

Who is 'Miranda Tate'?

Klaus Mikaelson!

One's a sneaky lady and one's a dashing fang-sprouting antagonist -- but both Miranda Tate (or Talia al Ghul as she's revealed at the end of the movie) and Klaus Mikaelson share way more commonalities than differences. For starters, they are cunning and resourceful individuals despite their disillusioned upbringings. Both have daddy issues, a love for wreaking havoc and destroying lives, the ability to raise armies (big or small) and admirable leadership qualities. (And sexy accents to boot!) Additionally, despite their riches and posh and proper airs of sophistication, these two can't be trusted...at all. They might not be your typical supervillains due to the fact they there's more than meets the eye...but they possess a rare zest for survival and mayhem and will turn on you quicker than you can say "Holy Klaus!"

Who is Scarecrow?

Rebekah Mikaelson

With his expertise in psychology, Dr. Jonathan Crane or "Scarecrow") is a master at causing fear and mental pain. He uses a variety of toxins that cause his victims to hallucinate that their phobias have come to life, and sports a super creepy Scarecrow mask to enhance the effect of the hallucinogen. So where does Bex fit into all this? Well, she's a rare beauty who leans heavily on the side of lunacy. Despite some of her better moments, she relishes revenge and getting her way -- and will go to all sorts of lengths to ensure that her enemies are eliminated. From slicing Damon open from head to toe to causing Elena and Matt's catastrophic car accident at the end of The Vampire Diaries Season 3, Rebekah has proven she loves a good kill but the torture process is where all the fun's at. She's a clever vamp who knows how to take control of a situation much like Scarecrow.

Who is Lucius Fox?

Stefan Salvatore!

Just like Alfred, Lucius Fox is one of Bruce Wayne's most loyal supporters. When the going gets tough, Fox is always there to lend a wise word ...and a couple of kick-ass new technological prototypes and machines. Although Stefan doesn't have high tech weaponry at his disposal, he does take after Fox some in the sense that he constantly has a Plan B, thinks things through before sharing them with others, and offers expert opinions without making decisions for people. Also, he has an understated humor about him which we adore very much!

Who is Batman?

Elena Gilbert!

Much like the Dark Crusader does at the end of the movie, Elena sacrifices herself for the sake of her loved ones and Mystic Falls over and over -- and has proven to have a blaring empathy for humanity throughout three seasons of The Vampire Diaries. Sometimes, when things get rough, she takes it upon herself to play a vigilante and go after danger herself without getting her close ones involved. She may not have a cape to call her own, riches at her disposal, or a sleek Bat-mobile to cruise around in but, just like Batman, Elena values justice, honor, and a sense of order. The line between right and wrong is a fragile one for her but she maintains a sense of dignity and keeps her cool no matter what horrors are hurled her way. Moreover, much like Bruce does in the third movie, Elena will soon find herself a dark warrior on the rise...
