On Thursday, 8/10, at 8/7c, the CW aired the first episode of The Vampire Diaries. Were you watching? Longtime fans of The Vampire Diaries books are sure to have pictured some things differently, but whether your Elena Gilbert is blond or brunette, the series premiere was pretty impossible to resist.

The special effects packed some serious bite, the cast was captivating, the tension was high, and Ian Somerhalder’s “Damon” was as irresistible as a blood-thirsty “Chuck Bass.” It’s also been gratifying to read reviews of the show that pay L.J. Smith the respect she’s due as Stephanie Meyer’s predecessor. All in all, 8/10 was a great night for Vampire Diaries fans everywhere. Can’t wait until next Thursday. Can you?
