VH1’s Do Something Awards honor people for their good deeds and for inspiring others to do the same — so it comes as no surprise that Vampire Diaries hunk Ian Somerhalder has been nominated in the “TV Star: Male” category. After all, when he’s not sassing up the set of TVD as Damon Salvatore, he’s out there rescuing animals, saving oceans, educating fans about Eco-friendly alternatives and shedding light on inhumane issues.

Not only does Ian promote positive change around the world through his rapidly growing charity called the Ian Somerhalder Foundation (ISF), but he was also recently named a United Nations Ambassador and honored with the Genesis Award at the 2012 Spirit Awards! Oh, and let’s not forget that he and his brother Bob also opened Built of Barnyard,  a wonderful furniture and home goods store that sells unique pieces made from recycled barnwood.

And better yet? The Vampire Diaries has been nominated as well for a Do Something TV Show award and is up against Glee, Pretty Little Liars, Modern Family, and The Big Bang Theory! The awards show will tape Sunday, August 19 at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica and air Tuesday, August 21 at 9pm on VH1. It will be co-hosted by Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, and Lamorne Morris, who co-star on FOX’s New Girl.
