Elena and Damon Bloodsharing: The Vampire Diaries Show vs Books

When it comes to steamy activities, vampires tend to be a bit unconventional. They’re daring, innovative, and all sorts of kinky. And, in Mystic Falls, nothing’s kinkier than blood-sharing — a passionate act of hemoglobin exchange that’s based on a fine balance between biting and sucking.

Elena feeds on Damon's blood - "Memorial"

Easy now, love. There's a good girl.

Excitingly enough, during The Vampire Diaries Season 4, Episode 2, fang fans finally witnessed an actual sensual “feeding” scene in which Damon Salvatore allowed Elena to sink her fangs into his sweet flesh for the very first time. It’s not the first time that Damon and Elena have gotten intimate (think back to that swoonworthy porch kiss from TVD Season 3) — so then why was the Delena scene such a big deal? Because feeding is a major aspect in the Vampire Diaries books (often serves as a metaphor for sex) and the writers and producers of the television series captured the pleasurable Delena moment perfectly!

Don’t believe us? Here’s a comparison of feeding moments from the show and books!

The Vampire Diaries Books:  “That was when she felt his mouth lightly brush her mouth.  And then she just thought, Oh! and Oh Damon . . . until he moved to gently touch her cheek with his silky soft tongue, manipulating chemicals first to make cleansing blood flow, and finally when the impurities had all been so softly swept away, to stop the blood and to heal the wound.  She could feel his Power now, the dark Power that he had used in a thousand fights, to inflict hundreds of mortal wounds, being held tightly in check to concentrate on this simple, homely task, to heal the mark of a whiplash on a girl’s cheek.  Elena thought it was like being stroked with the petals of that Black Magic rose, its cool smooth petals gently sweeping away the pain, until she shivered in delight.”  (The Return: Shadow Souls, pages 239-240)

The Vampire Diaries Show: In “Memorial,” Elena reveals to Damon that she can’t keep any bunny/Bambi/woodland creature blood down so Damon swoops in to rescue her from her own compassion (aka her Achille’s heel). He leads her to bathroom, locks the door, cuts his right hand and extends it out to her. Elena, without hesitating, digs in while Damon strokes her long, shiny hair and the feeding session turns into a sexual and passionate moment much like it did when Angel sank his teeth into Buffy’s tender neck in the second to last episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 3. (Frankly, we were surprised that the mirrors didn’t fog up with all the sucking and licking taking place!)

So tell us: Do you think the show version holds up all the blood licking/feeding taking place in the Vampire Diaries book series?

No, but it was equally exciting and who knows- it might lead to what happens in the books! It still shows that Elena trusts Damon with intimate things she doesn’t share with Stefan. That to me is very significant. There is that connection between them even Elena cannot deny and Stefan knows it. That is why he is really mad- he cannot break that bond! DELENA FOREVER!!!!

The Delena blood-sharing scene was definitely a lot more intense than in the book, and I’m sure it’s because of the explosive chemistry between Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev. Those two have really elevated the Damon and Elena characters to a whole new dimension. Will there be more Delena action this season? Find out at Lady Sybilla’s Vampire Diaries Blog on blogspot.

No, it didn’t because shortly after that scene, she comments about being disturbed (in the book) and how Damon had held her. Then he didn’t want to let go, but got up to see what was going on (like a pair of wolves defending it’s mate.) Too bad that couldn’t last, though. I enjoyed their relationship much better than Stelena’s in the books. Seemed more romantic and steamier, IMO. The book was a lot more steamier when read in that context in Shadow Souls. Also, in The Fury, when she gave in.

cinseg1 Have you read the last two VD books? It is really quite sad with the Delena prospect of it. Does anyone know if they are coming out with more books?
