While we enjoy watching Ian Somerhalder portray the sweet and dutiful boyfriend on The Vampire Diaries Season 5, there’s nothing better than watching Damon Salvatore in total bad boy mode. Remember Season 1? Damon was as smitten with Elena Gilbert as he is now — only back then he was a sexy, spontaneous dance machine who never gave a second thought as to whose neck he was snapping or feasting on. Blood was blood, and killing/maiming was fun and a natural aspect of his ‘creature of the night’ persona. ‘Viva la fangs!’ was his life motto and he certainly indulged in the hedonistic pleasures of being a vamp.
Although it sucks that Damon broke up with Elena in “Fifty Shades of Grayson,” there is one silver lining: the couple’s current split is going to spiral Damon into a state of moral ambiguity and his behavior is going to raise some eyebrows. If you thought his strategic murders of the Whitmore family members were unsettling, wait until you see him in action when TVD returns!
“Damon is bad again,” Ian revealed in a video interview with China Joy during a recent trip to China. He explained, “He’s sort of the bad Damon, which is always a lot of fun. Because he’s heartbroken from Elena. He wants to just eat people and drink booze.”
And if Elena was the person who inspired Damon to be a more thoughtful and compassionate man, guess who’s going to serve as the devil on his shoulder in TVD Season 5? His old Augustine buddy, Enzo (Michael Malarkey)! The two fellas are apparently letting bygones be bygones (remember the time you left me to die in a fiery cage of doom? don’t sweat it, mate!) and embarking on a beautiful-yet-dangerous bromance.
“Enzo is the man,” Ian raved. “There’s a lot of Enzo and Damon. I think it’s called Denzo.” The adventures of Denzo? Yes please! While we’re saddened about Delena (let’s face it though — there’s always hope for these twin flames), we’re eager to see Damon live it up with a proper drinking buddy again.
