Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) is strong, handsome, smart and constantly surrounded by people (including his girlfriend Elena Gilbert and his brother Damon) who love him. So why do we as viewers often find ourselves feeling sorry for him? Well, for starters, the poor guy is always finding himself in the thick of Mystic Falls drama. Or, it could be that his hunger for blood can easily be compared to that of a meth addict on Breaking Bad. (Poor Amber is probably still in therapy after her harrowing experience at the Miss Mystic Falls pageant in Vampire Diaries Season 1.) Although he’s been working diligently on establishing a tolerance to the dark red sap, Stefan still struggles and it sure doesn’t help when his old buddy Klaus pops up for a visit and compels him into full Ripper mode. Moreover, to add to his pile of woes, even though Elena ended up choosing Stefan in the Season 3 finale, she continues to harbor feelings for Damon.

On Choosing Salvatores: “I do think that, due to the circumstances obviously, all bets are off. I don’t necessarily think that’s going to be applicable now because of everything that’s happened. [Elena] made that decision before [and chose Stefan] but [then] she died.”
On The Shady, Fangy Vikings: “The Originals are characters that can never be trusted. I don’t think anybody on this show can ever be trusted to be honest with you.” Paul adds, “Well Rebekah, I guess, is the reason for Elena’s death.”
On Saving Elena: “The biggest question I’ve gotten is why didn’t Stefan save Elena in the car. Why did he grab Mat — why didn’t he grab Elena? That sort of gets answered in Season 4.”

Concerning Elena, the biggest defect of Stefan is that he always do what elena says to him, she told to save matt first he did. For exemple we can be sure that if it would be Damon, no matter elena would say, he will save her first, she would stay human. Stefan is guiltly too. Even if we can’t ignore that it’s Bex the killer.
