First Look at Elena Gilbert’s Parents on The Vampire Diaries Season 3

Elena Gilbert with her parents on The Vampire Diaries Season 3When The Vampire Diaries television show first began, viewers immediately learned that Elena and Jeremy Gilbert had lost their parents to a fatal car crash on Wickery Bridge. Although Elena’s mom and dad have been referenced numerous times throughout TVD seasons 1, 2, and 3, they have not appeared in any form or fashion on the show itself (not even in episode 3.07 — “Ghost World” — or in flashbacks). However that’s all about to change because fans of the riveting supernatural series will finally get to meet Elena’s wonderful, adoptive mom and dad – Miranda and Grayson Gilbert — on the The Vampire Diaries season 3, episode 22!

The roles of Grayson and Miranda are being played by actors James MacDonald and Erin Beute respectively, and the duo will appear in flashback scenes in the highly anticipated finale, eerily titled “The Departed.” May 2012 is a long way off though so the show’s creators and runners have issued a first look at Elena’s pre-Salvatore years via a picture of the beautiful doppelganger posing happily alongside her beloved parents. And, honestly, it’s so heartbreaking to look at the family pic and already know what terrors the future holds for them.

Judging by the fact that a casting notice had gone out a few weeks ago specifically requesting actors with scuba diving abilities, it’s safe to assume that viewers will witness the tragic event that changed the course of Elena’s seemingly perfect and normal life. Luckily, Nina Dobrev received her scuba diving certification during her holiday break way before the show requested it, and talked about her experience shooting the gut-wrenching underwater scene, “It’s something I hopefully will never have to experience in real life – trying to survive underwater while trying to save other people,” she said. “It was quite intense and a little scary.”

Are you excited to meet Miranda and Grayson Gilbert and find out more about Elena’s life before it was filled to the brim with vampires and hybrids and life-or-death road trips? Leave your feedback about the first look at The Vampire Diaries Season 3 finale in the comments!

I’m definitely looking forward to meeting Elena’s parents. I hope we catch a glimpse at what possible secrets they harbored- after all, it is TVD and Mystic Falls has more mystery than its name implies.
Also, coming from a council family, the Gilberts must have had a brush with the supernatural. Judging from the picture, I wonder what it is hidden behind the happy smiles! So excited- can’t wait to see this!!!!!

@Susy FYI I’ve been told by folks that have read the script that the finale is super crazy (even by TVD standards). I haven’t seen it yet (nor want blatant spoilers lol) but I’m excited based on that info alone! Apparently the last few episodes are going to be shocking beyond all measure! I feel like there will be a lot of tears. Personally, when I saw the photo of Elena with her parents I got all choked up. So sad to think about how much her life has changed over these last three years — one tragedy after the other. At least she’s got the Salvatore brothers and good friends by her side!

@Theo, I’m already anticipating what “super crazy” means for this season finale. We have seen crazy all season long- OMG! What are we in for?!?!
Hey, Theo, since you’ve got the inside scoop, do you know if the last episodes or the finale are “Delenalicious”? That’s all I need to know to get crazier!!!! Please just a yes (or no) will do!

  4. Susy Said:

    Totally off topic.
@Keyra007, Arwen1, and all Delenians out there: go to tvline.com and read the Ausiello scoops for 4/10- there is a question on Delena.
It says the April 19th episode is a MUST-SEE for Delena fans!
I’m already freaking out!!! Hell yeah- Delena is coming soon!!!!!!!

  5. Keyra007 Said:

@Susy thanks! I really hope the scoop is right and we have our Delenalicious scenes, at least some Delena goodness! we so much deserve it! It seems like the Delena bonding we enjoyed during the first part of this season is wasted away, as if it had never happened.
