There’s been so much torture and agony so far on The Vampire Diaries Season 3 that our favorite Mystic Falls residents are long due for a night of laughs and youthful debaucheries. Well, it’s time to slip into flapper dresses and spiffy suits, and plop on the gangster hats because TVD is taking it back — waaay back to the age of giggle water, speakeasies, and exclamations of ‘Applesauce’ and ‘Horsefeathers’! Yes, ladies and gentlevamps, the annual Mystic Falls decade dance is taking place April 26th and Elena, Caroline, Bonnie and crew are getting all dolled up in Roaring Twenties fashion!
Of course, that’s not to say that this Great Gatsby inspired evening of dancing and copacetic memories will be devoid of terror and heebie jeebies. After all, it’s pretty much TVD tradition that all hootenannies should end in broken hearts, painful injuries or, worse yet, death. And let’s not ignore the fact that the episode title — “Do Not Go Gentle” — is straight from from Dylan Thomas’ infamous villanelle in which the following frightening image is painted: “Wild men / who caught and sang the sun in flight, / And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, / Do not go gentle into that good night.” So brace yourselves, dear friends, because things are about to get crazy for our beloved dames and big cheeses of Mystic Falls. Swell.
Dive into the official synopsis for Vampire Diaries Season 3, Episode 20 below!
WHAT THE WORLD HAS TO OFFER — Alaric (Matt Davis) finds an unexpected ally to guide him on his dangerous new path, while Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Meredith (guest star Torrey Devitto) try to figure out what their next move should be. At the school’s 1920s Decade Dance, Bonnie (Kat Graham) asks Jamie (guest star Robert Ri’chard) to go with her and, at Caroline’s (Candice Accola) suggestion, Elena (Nina Dobrev) asks Stefan (Paul Wesley) to be her date. Caroline is pleasantly surprised when Tyler (Michael Trevino) shows up at the dance determined to sweep her off her feet, but Klaus (Joseph Morgan) does his best to come between them. The dance takes a deadly turn when Damon and Stefan realize they need the help of Matt (Zach Roerig), Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) and especially Bonnie to undo a spell that could prove devastating for everyone. Josh Butler directed the episode written by Michael Narducci (#320).

Oh my my my! Elena dancing with Stefan?! Now that we know that she and Damon will experience a spicy moment of passion on episode 3.19, her switching Salvatores again won’t bode well for anyone. (Plus, that’d be kind of balled up of her.) Also, check out Bonnie breaking it down Charleston-style on the dance floor — she’s totally the bee’s knees! And, OMG — we know that ol’ sap Klaus carries a torch for sweet Caroline but will she falls for his swanky hybrid ways? Judging by the sneak peek photo in which she’s sporting a sour look and has her arms crossed, it’s safe to assume that she won’t be putting up with any of Klaus’ baloney. Tyler is still the cat’s meow in her eyes!
Do you think this year’s decade dance will be even more intense than the Original Vampire family’s ball or last year’s creepy one in which Bonnie faked her own death? Post your predictions in the comments bel and discuss Vampire Diaries Season 3 spoilers in greater length in the fan lounge!
This dance will be more intense than any we’ve seen because the stakes of surviving are higher than they’ve ever been.
Elena going to the dance with Stefan (Caroline’s idea) and dancing with him doesn’t worry me. Judging by the pictures, Elena and Stefan aren’t looking at each other while dancing and Elena is seen crying & hugging Stefan- I’m wondering why the tears? Could this be the moment when Elena comes clean to Stefan about her until now “undefined” feelings for Damon? Could it be their official good-bye as a couple? Is the heartbreaking Stelena that has been hinted so much? The tears would then make sense.
All hell will break loose between Klaus and Tyler over Caroline.
I’m more intrigued about the spell that is a danger to all. Esther at play again? Why would the Salvatores think that Matt and Jeremy, along with Bonnie, are crucial in stopping this spell?
So many questions… Endless possible twists & turns!!
There will be a hot and steamy Delena moment in episode 18, but as it is shown in these stills and by the sypnosis, Elena is still playing ping ping with Salvatore brothers. One day she plays in Stefan’s field, next one in Damon’s.
I don’t think the scene where Elena is crying over Stefan’s shoulder shows the heartbreaking moment in which she confesses her feelings for Damon… It’s not logical to tell your ex that you love his brother and then hug him and cry over his shoulder, in any case he should be the one to be comforted. Do I make sense?
The new triangle Tyler-Caroline-Klaus is gonna be fun, I guess..
And why the hell Damon doesn’t attend the dance? he’s not dressed up on twenties style. As usual Stefan plays the nice part while Damon must clean up the dirtiness.
@Keyra007, Ouch! The mere thought of Stelena has got you upset? I know- it is frustrating that Elena goes back and forth between Damon and Stefan! It is always Damon who gets “demonized” and relegated to play second fiddle!
As far as my guess that this “heartbreaking” Stelena moment happens at this dance and Elena cries over it, when has Elena been logical? She is battling her true emotions: her heart screams for Damon, while her brain refuses to accept this truth! Maybe she tells this to Stefan and he wants to walk away, leading to her tears and a hug for consolation- nothing more. That is what I meant and I thought it made sense. It would be a bittersweet good-bye between two people whose “epic” love was really a good friendship, not a love affair to last forever. Wouldn’t that realization make you cry?
@Susy, No, I’m not upset! but I’m tired of the ping-ping game… Stelena was a couple for 2 seasons, Delena seems about to be a couple, but there’s always some obstacle that prevents them from being a couple (querer y no poder) and this situation is revolving once and again.
I understand your point but I think that Elena hasn’t realized that her epic love was an “ilusion” all of a sudden. She’s been realizing it all along this season, while she was falling out of love for Stefan and falling in love with Damon, but maybe you’re right and the writers just wrote that heartbreaking scene to make more palpable the pain for the breaking of their epic love… Although when I first saw the pic, I thought something bad had happen to Alaric or Jeremy or Bonnie. We’ll know it next week.
What I’m about to say has nothing to do with the dance but I wanted some opinions on this subject. We all found out that in the season finale will be a flashback with Elena’s parents and the accident, and I read somewhere that in the season finale, there will be a very emotional and introspective Delena moment, and Ian said that not even him thought at this.He and Joseph also said that has something o do with the beginning of the first season, so I watched again at the first episodes, and I have a idea. What if Damon saved Elena’s life in that accident, what if Stefan lied, what if Damon was there long before Stefan interfered? I don’t know I think it’s possible. What do you think?
About the dance…I don’t like it because like Keyra I’m tired of this switching game.Elena should realise that she loves Stefan but only like a friend, he supported her in those difficult moments, but that’s all, just like a friend, Damon is the one she is in love with, Damon is the one who makes her body shake every time he touches her. And now I’m not sure if Stefan really saved her life, so I don’t like this episode because once again Damon is left behind.
@Arwen1, I actually told Keyra a few weeks ago that I think Stefan caused the accident that killed the Gilberts and that he “saved” Elena out of guilt. Otherwise, why would he not tell her he’d saved her life from the moment they met? Maybe, this is the “heartbreaking” moment- Elena remembering that Stefan was the one who destroyed her once idyllic life! That he lied when he’d said he’d saved her life.
Arwen1, your theory fits perfectly in with mine- Damon being the true savior, loving Elena from the start! Perfect!!! We have seen St.Stefan take the credit for good things Damon has done and Damon has taken the blame for bad things Stefan has done. So it is entirely possible Stefan lied to Elena.
I agree with you that Damon is the one Elena loves because he makes her feel every emotion- she shivers every time they’re in the same room together! Yes, it’s annoying her “ping pong” game between Stefan and Damon- but patience, my fellow Delenians! If our ideas pan out, then Delena is just around the corner! Elena can’t possibly contain all these
emotions bottled up for long. She is going to explode! When she chooses Damon, she’ll be choosing the man she loves, her soulmate!
I heard that the reason Elena cries is that someone dies at the dance. Stefan is just a shoulder to cry on- as we’ve being saying all along- a good friend, nothing more!
@Arwen, Susy had a similiar idea a few weeks ago but I resist to believe the writers switch the brothers’s roles in such a radical way, because if what you say was actually true, it would be awesome for Damon and Elena… and too bad for Stefan, who has always been the “favourite” Salvatore for the writers. I find it hard to believe… it would change completely my opinion on my beloved writers… I rather tend to believe the opposite. Damon killed Elena’s parents and St. Stefan saved her. This fits more into writers’s tendecies. Sorry, it’s a negative view, but I think it’s more realistic since every time I or we expect good Delena moments, it happens just the contrary! and I wholeheartedly hope to be wrong.
Maybe this flasback has nothing to do with “who killed Elena’s parents or who saved her”…
Keyra, you are right is hard to believe that writers would make St. Stefan look bad, but this is very possible, because Ian says that it will be a very intense scene and he also says that we will see how much Damon cares about her.Writers have to do a change because like us, many fans are so so sick of Stelena. WE WANT DELENA!!!
@Arwen1,Amen! We want Delena NOW!!!!!!!
three more days to go!!!
@Arwen1 and Keyra007, it’s me Susy, but my new username is cinseg1. I had to change it for this new format. I’ll be writing soon!
