There’s no denying that The Vampire Diaries music is a crucial aspect of the show — it takes all those breathtaking scenes we’ve cherished over the span of three seasons, and elevates them to an explosive level of emotion we never even knew existed. The songs always correspond to the tone of the show so perfectly that sometimes they actually become hints as to what’s to come in Mystic Falls. Moreover, with tonight being the epic Season 3 finale episode, you better believe all the tracks were beyond haunting and titillating! And guess who one of the featured bands is? Sigur Rós!
The Icelandic band Sigur Rós’ announced earlier in the week that track five from their critically acclaimed album Valtari. They made the announcement via their official Facebook page:
Do you watch the Vampire Diaries? It just so happens that Dauðalogn, track five from Valtari, will have its world premiere on the season finale of vampire diaries tonight at 8pm eastern time on the CW. Look for it in the last five minutes of the show.
The fifth track on Valtari is titled “Dauðalogn” (which translates to “deathly still”) and it’s a gorgeous, ethereal melody that’s described “like an avalanche in slow motion” (according to the music review site Beats Per Minute). At some point during the devotional number, a choir takes over and it spirals up like a phoenix rising up and taking flight. Knowing that the song will be played during the last five minutes (usually the most heart-pounding ones on the show) and that there’s a HUGE, shocking twist happening, we’re got shivers running all up and down our spines!
