Ever since the last Vampire Diaries Season 3 promotional ad was released, we’ve been heavily contemplating the state of affairs in Mystic Falls. After all, that specific poster was stamped with the tagline “Where The Bloodline Ends” and featured Elena Gilbert dressed to the nines in a black gown and looking more regal and beautiful than ever. It also showed the Salvatore brothers standing behind her rather than beside her, and Klaus leering triumphantly behind the chipped column of an abandoned mausoleum. Well, lo and behold, The CW released yet another poster to keep us guessing. The new ad is a stunning, Black Dahlia-inspired portrait of Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) all by her lonesome, and lays down the foundation for The Vampire Diaries Season 4. Check it out:
The tagline, which reads “A Future Blooms,” is equal parts sinister and hopeful. The word “bloom” carries a positive connotation but, considering all the dark imagery plotted into this photo (and the fact that viewers will be witnessing poignant flashbacks to her life before vampires), it also conveys foreboding. Despite a solitary tear streaming out of the corner of her right eye, Elena doesn’t seem terrified at all — she surprisingly appears strong and confident as though she’s ready to face any trials and tribulations that come her way.
TVD executive producer and showrunner Julie Plec recently stated that Elena will be making a decision between Damon and Stefan at the end of season 3. Personally speaking though, we don’t think the use of the word “future” in this poster necessarily implies ‘steamy relationships‘. Taking into account that Elena is depicted in black and white coloring rather than her usual vibrant palette, makes us reason that our young Mystic Falls heroine will be embarking on a new adventure — and possibly trading in her current life for another (aka one in which her heart doesn’t technically beat).
Moreover, the semi-fading rose in the corner sends shivers up and down our spines. It looks as though someone sucked all the life out of the precious little flower. And knowing what we already know about Esther’s vendetta against her children and Klaus’ dependence on the doppelganger’s hybrid-making blood, the fading rose does not bode well at all! Additionally, red roses signify courage, passion and respect. (FYI: A light pink shade means sympathy.) A single red rose symbolizes love and enduring romance. What could embody more courage and love than a sacrificial act on Elena’s behalf to save her friends and family? Perhaps we’re reading waaay too much into the almost-monochromatic poster, but all the emotion packed into it is utterly fascinating. We’re just anxious to see what dangerous twists await our favorite Mystic Falls characters in the The Vampire Diaries Season 3 finale!

What do you make of the new TVD poster of Elena? Do you think it spells out trouble or is the feel much more sanguine than that? Leave your predictions below and chat more about upcoming Vampire Diaries Season 3 events in the message boards!

Wow, this poster does make me wonder what Elena is going to do! The rose is a symbol of a blossoming, flourishing of a love; passion. But roses also have thorns, which can cause pain. Roses are used to say good bye to the departed. From the poster, Elena’s face is deathly pale and there is a tear running down her face. Could this mean that Elena will start a new life with Damon/Stefan as a human being or as a vampire? Will she sacrifice her life for those of her loved ones?
The rose in the poster is «bleeding out», which could mean the loss of love or life. I’d guess it means Elena will suffer the loss of friends and even her own life. I hope it doesn’t mean Elena will regret who she choosed to be with.
I can’t wait to see how everything unfolds. It will be EPIC!!!!
As always, Delena forever!!!!!
it worries me that damon stands behind stefan and elena
I’m a Delena fan but i have a bad feeling about this :`(
DELENA FOR EVER!!! <3
I must admit the poster does freak me out- I’m a die-hard Delena fan and I’m getting a not so good feeling about the finale. OMG! I cannot wait, even if I’m decidedly worried. I am concerned.
Even though I am a huge Delena fan I think she is going to choose Stefan, sadly. But this isn’t the first time Elena has made son pretty ignorant decisions. But I think she is going to be turned into a vampire because there are clues in the text that would make us think that like when it says she is going to be embarking om a new adventure and when it says (aka one in which her heart doesnt technically beat.) And sh just looks a little different in the picture. But to who actually turns her is probably the guy she chooses so that they can be together forever, literly.Or Damon gets so mad that Elena chooses Stefan that he turns her so that he can get back at Stefan.
Also if you look closely at her mouth it looks like there is a line of blood.
Interesting. Elena looks different and her hair is not straight… A blossoming is always cause of happyness, it means a new beginning, but there’s pain too since Elena has a tear in her eye, as if she had to leave an endearing person or something behind.
The rose is half white and half red. White is the color of purity. Rose described Stefan’s love as pure. Red is the color of passion. Damon is pure passion. For me it’s a symbol of the choice she has to make but i don’t see any clue to figure out which Salvatore she’s gonna choose, if anyone… because she’s surrounded by darkness.
Oh and on the previous promo poster when it says where the bloodlines ends it could mean with the doppleganger because she is turned.Or because Klaus is the oldest so he is in the very back then Damon is slightly behind Stefan and he is next oldest the Stefan barely. in front then Elena the youngest vampire if she is turned.
