Death Toll Predictions for The Vampire Diaries Season 3: "Before Sunset" & "The Departed"

As The Vampire Diaries Season 3 comes to a close (or, more appropriately, a jolting screech), we can’t help but feel nervous about the remaining two episodes. Can you blame us though? This supernatural series has proven time after time that anything can go down and anyone can die! Although we hate the very thought of losing yet another cherished soul on this show, we’ve got a bad feeling about these unfortunate characters:

Bonnie Bennett

Why Bonnie? It's hard to picture the only Bennett witch in town getting the ax. However, the season 3 finale synopsis has left us all sorts of worried: "Finally, Bonnie (Kat Graham) makes a secret deal that has heartbreaking consequences." Additionally, the "Before Sunset" synopsis states the following: "...while Bonnie and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) take a terrifying risk to make sure her spell is effective." Last episode, Bonnie practically had the life drained from her small body when Ric grew a little bloodthirsty. This time around though, we've got this sinking feeling that she won't be as lucky.

Alaric Saltzman

Ric went from "history teacher by day to vampire slayer by night" to super bad ass serial killer to virtually unbeatable Original vampire. Considering how Matt Davis has landed a leading role in a new CW pilot, we're just going to ahead and predict that someone will stake him right where it hurts. And this time, he's not making it out of another episode alive.

Abby Bennett

Bonnie is going to turn to her mom for help with a spell. Last time that happened, Abby was force fed blood by Damon and got her neck snapped. She sure doesn't seem to have great luck with spells and rituals...so we're thinking the next step is irreversible death.

Elena Gilbert

All the Season 3 May sweeps posters hint that Elena's embarking on a new, dark adventure...becoming a vampire. And to be turned successfully, Elena must die. That's why she's on the list. Technically, she won't disappear but kind doppelganger Elena might actually be replaced with a fangy version. Ay yi yi!

Elijah Mikaelsen

Elijah left Mystic Falls a few episodes ago but the thing with this honorable Original is that he tends to appear when he's least expected. Our fear is that although he's coming tearing on through (ripping evil hearts out left and right) he'll ultimately meet his doom in Alaric Saltzman.

Jeremy Gilbert

Elena's little bro already died in Season 2, Episode 22, "As I Lay Dying" and was resurrected by means of Bonnie's super convenient powerful dead ancestors. Plus, he has that magical bling ring that helps him come back to life. But will he continue wearing after seeing how it turned his guardian/teacher Alaric into a complete nut job? Well, we don't know for sure but the season 3 finale synopsis states the following foreboding details: "Determined to protect his sister, Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) makes a decision that will change everything."

Klaus Mikaelsen

Either Klaus flees from Mystic Falls in episode 3.21, or Alaric succeeds in dusting his evil ass once and for all. We love Klaus' charming ways but we can't picture Ric getting bested by his wiles. Plus, we saw him practically being killed off in the sneak peek trailer for episode 3.21. This could all have been edited in a way to make us think our favorite hybrid was going bye bye. Still, Klaus started this war...and a war sadly always has casualties.

Matt Donovan

At the 1920s decade dance, Caroline randomly warned Matt to stay far from Elena because when people were around her they tended to die. Matt's human. Lady Luck is never on this poor kid's side. We adore Mr. "Blue Eyes" Donovan but we're just putting two and two together here...

Rebekah Mikaelsen

She and Ric are going to brawl it out in "Before Sunset." In the preview trailer for this episode, Ric is totally owning the blond bombshell and has her slammed against a school locker gasping for dear life. Will she survive? We hope so but the odds are not looking too good for poor Barbie Klaus.

Tyler Lockwood

We know what's at stake for Tyler. If Klaus dies, he dies (and any vampires created through Klaus' bloodline). Tyler's suffered a lot throughout the seasons -- he's had to endure painful werewolf transformations, he was killed and turned into a hybrid, and now he has to pretend to obey Klaus' every command in order to protect those dearest to him. Moreover, "The Departed" episode overview states the following eerie spoiler: "Caroline (Candice Accola) and Tyler (Michael Trevino) are forced to make a life-changing decision." All we can say to that is, "AW HELL NAW!"

Last year, the penultimate episode of The Vampire Diaries Season 2 (“The Sun Also Rises”) left us in a state of total and utter emotional disarray due to the following tumultuous events: Tyler returned to town to visit his hospitalized mom only to get captured — along with Caroline — by Klaus’ magical minions. Damon force fed Elena his blood against her will. (Granted, it was to save her life because Klaus had plans to sacrifice the doppelganger that night.) Tyler’s werewolf mentor Jules had her heart torn out by Klaus. Aunt Jenna was turned into a vampire and then subsequently staked during Klaus’ ritual. Elena had the blood (and life) drained from her body by Klaus as he completed his transformation into a hybrid. Elijah went back on his word and ended up saving Klaus’ life right after Bonnie, drawing power from nature, weakened him to a humbling point. Uncle John sacrificed his life so that Elena would reawaken as a human — not a vampire. Matt showed up in the woods brandishing a rifle filled with sharpened stakes. Damon received a deadly werebite from Tyler Lockwood. Oh, and let’s not forget some of the more minor casualties such as when Damon killed off Klaus’ evil witch buds, Gretta and Mason. (Phew –that took a lot out of us!)

And yes, ALL these twists occurred in just ONE episode. Considering the fact that Klaus is not even the big bad evil anymore — what with Alaric Saltzman, vampire and slayer extraordinaire. in the picture — we’re beyond freaking out!

Sadly, we have no choice but to face the dismal realities of certain characters. Which Mystic Falls resident do you think will die in “Before Sunset” and “The Departed”? Why? Post your predictions in the comments, and tune in for an all new Vampire Diaries Season 3 episode tonight at 8/7c on The CW!

Well, this time around, there are more possible victims than last season:
Alaric- vampire/indestructible vampire slayer, without Esther’s mojo, pretty much killable.
Bonnie-possessed, frustrated over always losing a loved one, she might just give up or get killed.
Jeremy- always a liability, never in the right place, clueless.
Matt- always helping, but in danger of sacrificing himself for his friends.
Elena- death is sadly always following her and everyone she loves.
Damon- he would give his life for Elena, he loves her that much! Damon values Elena’s life more than his own.
Stefan- with all his flaws, he too would give his life for Elena.
    Bottomline: NO ONE is safe!
I just hope Elena and Damon live- I want DELENA NOW!!!!!!
    Delena forever!!!!
