It’s been an exciting month in The Vampire Diaries casting world! Not only did Nine Lives of Chloe King star, Grace Phipps, land the role of Jeremy Gilbert’s childhood BFF, but sassy Secret Circle witch, Phoebe Tonkin, is also set to hit up the Mystic Falls scene to stir up trouble between Tyler and Caroline! Well, we’ve got another gifted actor to add to the list of talent — according to TVGuide, David Alpay will portray Duke University mastermind, occult believer, (and possibly Bonnie Bennett’s beau), Professor Shane!

We previously dream cast the role of Professor Shane, and suggested a handful of  attractive actors with a hint of geek appeal (such as Matthew Gray Gubler and Zachary Quinto). However, David definitely fits the criteria and will do the important part justice. Moreover, he’s starred in two lush and drama-packed shows, The Tudors and The Borgias –  so we know that he’ll play an intellectual and sexy professor to a tee!

The fourth season of The Vampire Diaries premieres on October 11, 2012 at 8/7c on The CW, and we can’t wait to see David Alpay  get into character as he tackles the occult and gets brainy with Bon-Bon!

So tell us: What do you think of the latest TVD casting news?
