Executive producer Julie Plec has already revealed that Bonnie‘s father will be cast in Season 4 of The Vampire Diaries. And it seems like Daddy Bennett might be making an appearance in Mystic Falls sooner rather than later. Although there’s nothing that specifically indicates that the newcomer in town is Bonnie’s father, we’ve got a hunch it just might be.
According to a recent casting notice, TVD’s team is looking for an African-American man in his late 30s/early 40s to take on the role of Rudy Hopkins. Rudy is described as a “protective parent,” and we know that Bonnie’s dad was pretty strict about all the supernatural nonsense and had no interest in exploring the ways of the Bennett witches. (Sheila confirmed this in Season 1 when she told Bonnie, “Your dad thinks I fill your head with all my witchy joojoo.”)
Either way, we can’t wait to find out! In the meantime, just like we did with Bonnie’s mom, we’ve dream cast the new role with some actors we think could hold their own in drama-filled Mystic Falls:
Michael EalyKat Graham has beautiful eyes. So does Michael Ealy. Ergo, he's a contender. Plus, he's an amazing actor who mesmerizes viewers. It can't get any better than that, folks!
Idris ElbaRemember when Idris played Tango in American Gangster> Or when he took on the role of Ben in The Reaping? Or, better yet, when he got downright hardcore as Stringer in The Wire? Idris has more than just talent. The man has heart just like our beloved Bonnie -- and as they say, like father like daughter...
Boris KodjoeFirst of all, he's beautiful. The PTA would gladly welcome him with open arms. Second, he's tall which would be very handy in the event that the new hunter Connor comes after Bonnie. And third? He rocked our worlds when he played sports agent Damon Carter on Showtime's Soul Food so we know that the man's got mega talent!
Morris ChestnutMorris already has experience playing a father -- he literally brought us to tears as a teenage father (Ricky Baker) in the unforgettable film Boyz n the Hood. He then wowed us in The Brothers. Plus, he has such a unique look to him -- he seems like so contemplative and alert, like the type of person who wouldn't allow his daughter to dabble in dangerous magics.
CommonOkay. So Common is already starring in AMC's Hell on Wheels but he's such a great guy -- full of talent and wisdom. Bonnie sort of needs that in her life right now and Common would do the fatherly role justice! (And, yes, we love his music so we're a bit biased when it comes to him!)
Terrence HowardTerrence Howard is no stranger to gritty roles. He portrayed a pimp-turned-rapper in Hustle & Flow with great gusto and he proved he can handle uber tough scenes in his 50 Cent's biopic Get Rich or Die Tryin'. And life in Mystic Falls is pretty hardcore too. Only the brave of heart survive and we've got a feeling Terrence would show those monster who's boss!
Donald FaisonWe loved him in Clueless. We adored him in Scrubs. It wouldn't be too far-fetched to say that we'd love him as Bon-Bon's dad. Although he's more of a comedic actor, we'd love to see him take on the challenges of being a parent in Mystic Falls!
Omari HardwickOmari has major industry cred. He's worked with Spike Lee. He's worked with Tyler Perry. Oh -- and kicked ass in The A-Team. Now all he needs to do is bring his fighting spirit and glorious muscles to TVD and help his potential daughter Bonnie take down the Big Bads of Mystic Falls!
Who would you love to see play Bonnie Bennett’s dad on The Vampire Diaries? Do you think Rudy Owens is actually her father?
