The Amazing Race: Fang Edition island adventure comes to a screeching halt in The Vampire Diaries Season 4, Episode 15, when half of the Mystic Falls gang returns home while the other half decides to stay in Nova Scotia.
However, the dramatic group dispersal is not what has captured our attention. It’s the episode title — “Stand by Me” — that has instead. Also the name of a poignant Ben E. King song, “Stand by Me” is a coming of age film based on Stephen King’s novella, The Body, that explores the joys and tribulations of friendships as well as the melancholy interludes that follow a life-changing journey. And although the movie remains a classic, it is still a bittersweet tale of personal growth and loss. Thus, when we found out that Damon is going to be delivering some “somber news” to Rebekah after the whole cure debacle, we naturally panicked.

Still on the island, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) relays somber news to Rebekah (Claire Holt), and is surprised at her reaction. Together, Damon and Rebekah learn an unexpected bit of recent history from Vaughn (guest star Charlie Bewley). Everyone is horrified when Bonnie (Kat Graham) reveals the rest of Shane’s (guest star David Alpay) plan. Finally, after Damon does his best to help her, Elena comes up with a plan of her own. Lance Anderson directed the episode written by Julie Plec (#415).
This episode is the one that the cast members can’t stop raving about. According to what Kat Graham exclusively told us in a recent interview, it’s a heartbreaking hour of television and, by far, her favorite Vampire Diaries Season 4 ep. We’re super stoked for it, especially since it’s written by Julie Plec, but we can’t help but feel a sense of foreboding. Are you worried as well? Post your thoughts in the comments!
