Never in her wildest dreams did Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) ever imagine that she’d one day be a vampire. Alas though, the inevitable happened in The Vampire Diaries Season 4 premiere and Elena’s biggest fear became a reality. Yep, that’s right. The prettiest doppelganger in all of Mystic Falls now has a pair of fangs to call her own.

However, with great supernatural power comes great responsibility — and Elena doesn’t seem to be handling her state of baby vamp-hood all too well. She’s an emotional wreck and craving blood 24/7…yet doesn’t want to feed on any innocent people or creatures. So what does she do? She turns to Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) for some help — after accusing him of blowing up a roomful of humans first that is. (It’s okay though because bad boy Damon is back and he basically kicks her out of his BFF Alaric’s old seat the Mystic Grill bar.) Elena: (angrily) Did you do it?
Damon: (takes sip of drink) “That seat’s taken.”
Elena: “But there’s no one here.”
Damon: “Well I’m just going to pretend like there’s someone there ’cause the alternative is too damn depressing.”
Elena: (gets up and switches bar stools) Did you set off the explosion that killed the town council?
Damon: “Am I wearing my ‘I Blew up the Council’ t-shirt? Why does everyone keep asking me that?”
Elena: “Did you?”
Damon: “No. Anything else?”
Elena: “Yes. Something’s wrong. I can’t keep any of the animal blood down.”
Damon: “Well there’s a shock.”
Elena: “I think I need your help.”
Damon: “Of course you do. Pick your meal: You’ve got Asian fusion, Mexican, [or] what about some good old American comfort food?
Elena: “No. No…No human blood. Stefan’s right — I have to at least try to get through this without hurting anyone.”
Damon: (sets drink down and takes Elena by the hand) “Come on.”
