Fans of The Vampire Diaries have been sitting on pins and needles (or ‘finely whittled stakes’ if you prefer fang imagery) for a first look at Season 4 of the hit supernatural series, and speculating as to what Elena Gilbert’s transition will mean for everyone in her life. We’ve all been nibbling on delicious little spoilers here and there — but nothing appeases the appetite quite like brand new scenes featuring Elena, the Salvatore brothers, and our favorite Mystic Falls residents! Well, it seems like everyone’s biggest wish has finally been granted because the CW just released — fresh off the editing grill — an exciting preview trailer for the upcoming season. Dive in below if you’re ready to experience some serious drama:

Oh my Klaus! ‘Drama’ doesn’t even begin to describe the immense anguish and frustration ailing all our beloved characters. Tension is definitely at an all-time high (as can be sensed in the sneak peek footage from “Growing Pains”) as everyone races to find a magical loophole to prevent Elena’s transition! (Plus, anyone get a load of that sizzling Forwood woodland sex scene and the major car crash at the end? Oh! And what about the mysterious pair of blue eyes at 0:36 — could they belong to Mikael?!) Here are a handful of highlights from the promo:

1. “Am I dead?” – Elena upon waking up. (Just break our hearts, damn it! Dr. Meredith Fell doesn’t appear very thrilled at this young girl’s new state either.)
2. “We have all day before she has to feed. That’s a day to exhaust every possible way out of this.” – Stefan to Damon (Hmm. Is there an actual remedy that could reverse Elena’s new fang situation? Does Stefan about particular spell?)
3. “There’s no way out of it. You feed or you die.” – Damon (The older Salvatore brother gets straight to the point and encourages Elena that survival is the only solution. Is it just us or does Damon look absolutely devastated in the preview video? It seems like he’s come a long way from force-feeding Elena before deadly sacrificial rituals!)
4. “She’s still in transition — not fully dead not fully alive.” – Bonnie (Foreshadowing perhaps? Elena’s BFF makes a valid statement. She’s not dead yet…and if there’s a will, there’s sometimes a way.)
5. “The fangs come in yet?” – Jeremy to Elena. (A little humor never hurt anyone. Elena doesn’t seem to find her brother’s joke all that hilarious though.)
6. “Maybe I could go to the other side and bring her back.” – Bonnie (We’ve heard rumblings that Grams might be making a surprise appearance. Is this who Bonnie could be referring to? Or is she going to reach out to the Original Witch?!)
7. “What kind of power’s going to let you to kill yourself and bring someone back with you from the dead?” – Jeremy to Bonnie. (OMG! Please don’t tell us that Bonnie’s going to attempt another heart-stopping spell (literally) in order to save her best friend…But we know that she’ll be stirring up some magic with Jeremy so who knows what mighty forces she’ll tap into!)
8. “No matter what happens, I am here for you.” – Stefan to Elena (Swoon! Stefan Salvatore loyal until the end.)
9. “You have no idea what you’re up against.” – Sheriff Forbes (Yikes! Who’s the new bad-ass in town? Is he part of the new hunter’s crew? And is the Sheriff threatening him or warning him?)
10. “Stefan…I’m dying.” – Elena to Stefan (Knowing how TVD operates on high-impact shock value, we wouldn’t be surprised if Elena, in a desperate measure to stay alive, feeds on someone close to her. Poor Mattie? Jeremy? We’ll find out soon!)
