You know what pop culturalists say — it’s not a thrilling television season unless somebody gets locked up in a cage. Mystic Falls is infamous for this ritual — Alaric Saltzman, Damon Salvatore, Sheriff Forbes, and Stefan Salvatore have all been imprisoned at some point. And, in The Vampire Diaries Season 4, someone else will be as well…and her name is Elena Gilbert!
Whether she likes it or not, Elena’s in transition and well on her way to sprouting sharp little fangs. In the Vampire Diaries Season 3 finale — “The Departed” — she drowned under Wickery Bridge with Damon’s blood in her system (courtesy of Dr. Meredith Fell’s controversial medical practices). However, while super powers and heightened sense may seem awesome and all, they come with great responsibility — like trying not to feed on unsuspecting people and claim innocent lives. Judging by TV Guide‘s photo above, it looks like Elena is going to have a tough time dealing with her new cravings — and someone’s going to help her out by locking her up.
To be fair, Elena can’t be blamed for her sudden blood lust. After all, vampires have to survive like the rest of us, and in order to do so they need an daily intake of sanguine nutrition just like we need a daily intake of vitamins. But is locking her up taking it a step too far? Post your feedback in the comments and be sure to tune in to TVD’s premiere, “Growing Pains, ” on October 11th at 8/7c on The CW!

Well, it seems this season will be a doozy. Elena in cage?! Fifty shades of TVD!! I wonder who puts her there! It might seem harsh, but it could be necessary. I just think Elena might be the one with the idea to be caged- Elena would try to prevent harming innocent people.
@cinseg1 LOL — “Fifty Shades of TVD” = amazing.
Yes Elena is absolutely able to lock herself to be sure!I think we can add Caroline to the list, she also was on cage in the season 2, because of Jules and her wolf-and-boyfriend.
Who said it’s Elena? Could always be Katherine again.
