On Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Willow Rosenberg was always getting the rest of the Scoobies out of supernatural messes. Whether she was helping her friends not fail finals or using her powers to destroy demons, Willow could always be counted on to save the day — to the point where she was once referred to as “Old Reliable.” Much like Sunnydale’s fiercest witch, Bonnie Bennett from The Vampire Diaries suffered from the same stigma for the first three seasons.
When Klaus needed a linking spell undone, Bonnie did her thing. When Caroline needed a daylight ring, Bonnie worked her magic. When Damon needed to get into the Fells Church cave to “rescue” Katherine, Bonnie reluctantly helped him out (and lost her grandma Sheila in the process). Remember when all the ghosts of Mystic Falls came out to play? Bonnie was the one everyone turned to for help. Basically, Bonnie kept finding herself in dangerous positions and being peer pressured to save the day even if it was for a supernatural cause she did not wish to support.
However, watch out, viewers, because in The Vampire Diaries Season 4, Miss Bennett is coming into her own, seizing her independence, and throwing up deuces at all the unsatisfying sidekick action. Check out what Michael Ausiello from TVLine.com revealed:
Question: Any Vampire Diaries scoop on Bonnie? —Macarena
Ausiello: Her decision in the finale to help Klaus take possession of Tyler’s body (all for the greater good and unbeknownst to everyone) sets up a very interesting Season 4 for Elena’s BFF. “This is Bonnie’s ‘I am witch woman, hear me roar’ moment,” declares Vampire Diaries EP Julie Plec. “She went and made a decision that she felt was best for the people that she loved, consequences be damned. Bonnie is the true hero in all of this, if you really look at it. She came in and found a way to save the day. Had she not done what she did, all of our heroes would be dead… We’re just seeing the beginning of growth for her, exploring who she is and what it means to be a witch and how she feels about it.”
Honestly, we can’t wait to see the new badass Bonnie is action. When she went behind everyone’s backs in The Vampire Diaries Season 3 finale to save Klaus, we applauded her because — seriously — enough was enough already.
