Vampire Diaries Season 4 Spoilers: Damon's Thirst for Revenge

The Vampire Diaries Season 3 finale ended on a devastating note — with Elena Gilbert sacrificing her life in order to save her childhood friend Matt Donovan from drowning in the lake beneath Wickery Bridge. Luckily (for us), Dr. Meredith Fell had slipped some of that yum yum vamp juice into Elena’s IV when she was checked into the hospital, so technically she’s alive (as alive as a girl transitioning into a vampire can be, that is). However, that sort of reasoning isn’t good enough for Damon Salvatore at all !

As it turns out, Damon’s taking a page out of Emily Thorne’s playbook and itching for good old fashioned revenge. His prime target? None other than poor Matt! (Even though Matt’s planted firm on land now where there’s plenty of fresh air at his disposal, doesn’t mean he’s out of hot water quite yet.) Here’s what Ausiello over at TVLine.com had to say on the matter:

Question: It’s maybe a little too early to ask this, but do you know whether vampire-Elena will be taking some kind of revenge on Rebekah for causing her death when The Vampire Diaries returns? —Gabriela
Ausiello: I’m going to assume Elena has her hands full completing her transition to vampire. One person who does have revenge on the brain is Damon, who blames poor Matt for Elena’s little predicament.

Aww! As much as we adore Damon and those mesmerizing eyes of his, it seems a bit cruel to use Matt as a scapegoat for Elena’s descent into darkness. After all, she was the one who made the decision to have Stefan save Matt and not her — so why is Damon getting all playground bully on one of the only human sweethearts left in Mystic Falls? Shucks. Pick on someone your own size, Damon — especially a nice guy whose mom you got sexy with!

Who wore black best: Kat Graham or Alexandra Daddario?

No, Matt isn’t to blame. Elena wanted Stefan to save Matt first- she knew she could drown and took the risk anyway. Personally, I also blame Stefan- where was the super vamp speed and strength to save BOTH?! So if Damon should be angry at anyone, why not at Stefan?

  2. nightangel Said:

No i dont think its Matts fault if anyone is to blame its Rebecca.shes the 1 that was standing in the middle of the road….

  3. Damongirl26 Said:

Yes Matt is to blame because it is the second time he endangered her life but instead it ended up killing her because she wanted to save his life and at the end it ended up turning her into something she does not want to be. She doesn’t want to be the same as the dopplganger that once had Stefan and damns heart she does not want to be a vampire. Damon will be pissed he won’t be the only one klaus will also be pissed at his sister but if he finds out he will want Matt dead more than Damon. So yes Matt is to blame because he is weak and obviously still in love with Elena. So he does stupid thing. Damon has the right to be angry and who knows maybe Stefan will be angry too. But they deserve to be angry at rebekah and Matt.

I’m not blaming Matt. He didn’t provoked the accident neither asked to be saved. In first place I’d blame Rebbeca because she provoked the accident, second I’d blame Elena because she told Stefan to save Matt first, and third I’d blame Stefan because he might have saved both, Matt and Elena at the same time and he didn’t, he just obeyed blindly Elena, as usual….

  5. Emmarose Said:

Ok he wanted to protect Elena but it’s his fault because Rebekah is a vampire so he didn’t have to make the car leave the bridge, it doesn’t matter if they would lay into her, she would survive. I’m not sure of the issue of it maybe Elena would be alive; and by alive I mean human! So yes for me Matt has the responsability of it, but it’s Elena’decision so it’s shared. However we can count on Damon to be bloody brillant to revenge his Elena!

  6. Keyra007 Said:

And what goodness out of revenge can there be for Elena? She’ll be pissed off anyway. Whatever Damon does, it’s not going to please Elena, rather the opposite… Matt is the only human left, along with Jeremy, let them alone. Isn’t Stefan supposed to be stronger than humans? Why couldn’t he save both, Elena and Matt? He is idiot… and if someone is gonna be blamed, should be him.

  7. DelenaForLife Said:

i blame Rebekah not Matt. She caused the accident not Matt. My OPINION!!

  8. delenaforever Said:

I blame Rebekah shes the one who caused the accident in the first place!Damon needs to leave Matt alone and go for Rebekah!

  9. VampireGirl12 Said:

I already know, he is going to blame Stefan & turn o his aufull ways just because she chose him instead

  10. Millie miles Said:

Yes matt is partially to blame because he was driving and he drove round Rebecca on the other hand elena is also to blame because she asked Stefan to save matt knowing what the ending would be was dead she took the risk anyway on the other hand again Rebecca is to blame because she was stood in the rood and made matt swerve round her ending up in the water killing her where her parents lives ended
