When we think of Mystic Falls’ most unfortunate resident, Matt Donovan immediately springs to mind. And what about second most unfortunate character on the show? Well, that one’s a toughie since a lot of people do end up suffering in this mystical town, but Jeremy Gilbert is without a doubt in the running for the title. The poor guy is only a teenager but yet he’s lost both his parents, his aunt, his uncle, his mentor and guardian (Alaric) and now his sister is in transition and she can either become a bloodsucking fiend or die. So what’s a boy to do? Man up prematurely, that’s what! Check out what Steven R. McQueen revealed about Jeremy’s intense journey in The Vampire Diaries Season 4:
- “[He] wanted to keep [his] sister safe so he — along with Matt — [devised] a plan to get her out of town and that ended up contributing to her death and becoming a vampire”
- “Jeremy finds out about Elena’s death when the ghost of Alaric shows up and through their conversation it just kind of dawns on him, ‘OK wait if you’re here right now that means…’”
- “It [will] be interesting to see where he goes with that. You know, Jeremy’s been in love with vampires but his family legacy is to hunt them, so we’ll see.”
- “My thing is to keep Elena safe, to make her feel safe and I failed to do so. I think this next season it’ll be interesting to see where that goes. I think his main objective will be to become stronger and protect the people he loves — [whose] numbers are dwindling.”
Do you have a feeling, given the hints Steven shared in the interview above and knowing that Jeremy dabbled with vampire slaying last season, that Jeremy is going to get a lot more hardcore in The Vampire Diaries Season 4?
