You’ve watched the gripping promo trailer (you know, the one filled with terms of endearment and montages of a wild-tressed Elena spiraling out of control). You’ve seen the mysterious photos. Now get ready to delve into what appears to be the longest, most detailed synopsis in the show’s history! That’s right. The official description for The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Episode 16 is finally here and, holy freaking Salvatore, it’s teeming with juicy spoilers.
What’s going to happen? Deep breaths, folks, because things are about to get intense: Stefan’s in danger! Elena is forced to face the consequences of Katherine’s actions! Damon is overcome with guilt about his killing spree! Bonnie is missing! Caroline and Enzo share lots of screen-time! A new guy with a sketchy agenda pops up out of nowhere and invites Elena to get crunk with him! Best of all, “spring break forever, b*tches”! (We apologize for all those nonsensical, exclamatory sentences. We can’t help ourselves. #Panicking.) For more details about TVD episode 5×16, check out the CW’s description for “While You Were Sleeping” below.
When Stefan (Paul Wesley) tries to explain recent events to a very sick Elena (Nina Dobrev), her first instinct is to call Damon (Ian Somerhalder). At the same time, Damon is trying to figure out how to make a disturbing confession to Elena. While going through Dr. Wes’ files, Caroline (Candice Accola) discovers a frightening secret, and is surprised when Enzo (guest star Michael Malarkey) appears, claiming to have the solution everyone is searching for. At Enzo’s insistence, Caroline asks Stefan to meet her at a mysterious location where they are joined by a group of Travelers, including Sloan (guest star Caitlin McHugh), who reveals new information on the importance of doppelgangers. During spring break on a mostly deserted Whitmore campus, Elena runs into Luke (guest star Chris Brochu), a student who seems to know her, though she has no memory of meeting him. Recently dumped by his boyfriend, Luke proposes that he and Elena spend the break getting drunk together, but she sends him off on an urgent mission to find Bonnie (Kat Graham) and the “newbie” witch, Liv (guest star Penelope Mitchell). Damon finally tells Elena the truth about his recent activities, and they come to a new agreement about their relationship. Pascal Verschooris directed the episode written by Caroline Dries (#516).
Remember when the Travelers got their hands on a bucketful of Elena and Stefan’s blood in “500 Years of Solitude”? Do you think that moment will come back to haunt them now? And, maybe it’s just us, but we have a feeling Damon’s secret is the fact that he attacked Aaron Whitmore the same way we do a piece of chocolate cake when coming off a diet. Do you think Elena will be able to forgive him? (According to what executive producer Caroline Dries told us, “the answer will surprise you.”) Sound off in the comments!
Mark your calendars, gentle viewers: The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Episode 16 airs Thursday March 20th at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW!
