It’s party time, fang fans! According to the CW’s official synopsis for The Originals Season 1 Episode 17, the Mikaelson clan is throwing a huge shindig (it sounds a bit more low-key than their glamorous ball from TVD episode 3×14) for all their supernatural friends and the locals of New Orleans. Hooray? Not quite. While there is a great deal of merriment to look forward to, don’t be fooled — the war brewing between the French Quarter vampires and witches has intensified and the situation has grown more dire than ever. And while Klaus fiddles as his city metaphorically burns, Elijah is forced to step up to the plate and forge unnatural alliances in order to ease any potentially dangerous situations.

After accusing Klaus (Joseph Morgan) of doing nothing while their control over the Quarter crumbles, Elijah (Daniel Gillies) makes a move to take matters into his own hands. He receives an intriguing offer of support from Francesca (guest star Peta Sergeant), a beautiful woman from a powerful New Orleans family. In an attempt to bring the warring factions of the city together, the Mikaelsons throw an extravagant party, where Klaus offers Jackson (guest star Nathan Parsons) a tempting deal, Elijah and Hayley share a dance, and a violent fight comes to a surprising end. Finally, even as Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) works on a new path to power, he continues to help Cami (Leah Pipes) deal with her Uncle Kieran’s tragedy (guest star Todd Stashwick). Michael Robinson directed the episode written by Michelle Paradise & Christopher Hollier (#117).
