The Originals Season 1 Episode 8: Synopsis for “The River in Reverse”

Klaus in the 1820s - The Originals Season 1 Episode 8Who’s ready for some wicked flashback scenes on The Originals? This time around, in Season 1 Episode 8: “The River in Reverse,” we’re hurtling back 200 years to watch as Klaus and Elijah engage in a proper old-fashioned duel and as they stand in a majestic field to practice shooting skills. (Nothing screams “gentlevamp” more than tucking your left hand neatly behind your torso as you fire away your shiny pistol.)

However, Klaus and Elijah’s fancy posture is not what has caught our eye about the latest installment of the Vampire Diaries spin-off. Rather, it’s the date: 1820s to be exact. If you recall, this is around the time Klaus came upon a brave young boy named Marcellus and rescued him from a life of enslavement. It’s also right after the governor (whose son Rebekah was smitten with before Klaus tossed the poor lad to his early death) passed away. Thus, you know that we’re not going to be treated to just any flashbacks but rather ones that will further thicken the plot.

Meanwhile, in present times, a bunch of interesting situations present themselves: Rebekah seeks advice from Father Kieran, Marcel uncovers upsetting information about Klaus, and Hayley meets someone from her past. Oh, and good news: Cami (Leah Pipes) is this episode so you better believe there will be some poignant human interactions to look forward to as well.
