No, Damon is not gone for good. We know this from the ending of Midnight. I think Elena will re-evaluate her relationship with Stefan- because now that Damon is “gone”, she realizes how much she loves him. I think she will be honest with Stefan and their relationship will be more platonic. I know it isn’t safe for Elena and her friends because the goddess and the kitsune will want revenge against them. I CANNOT WAIT TO READ PHANTOM.
If the writers know better, they better not have Damon “gone”forever. I don’t expect him to come waltzing into their lives so quickly, but there should be some kind of indication that he will be back. If Elena felt that strongly about Damon, I don’t think she’s going to rush back into the arms of Stefan. He will be her strength to go on, but I don’t think they’ll be a couple again. As far as the town being safe……no way, the town is situated on top of those lines that seems to draw every supernatural creature that exists!!!

SO disappointed that this wasn’t written by L. J. Smith… literally started crying when I found out. I am so on the fence about whether or not I want to support the story!! It’s driving me insane!! Apparently, they didn’t like the way she was making Elena’s character behave (the cheating on Stefan), and they didn’t like the storyline (More drama) so me being a DIE HARD DELENA fan am seriously concerned about whether the ghost writer that they chose is going to make this strictly Stelena just cuz thats what the publishers want! I don’t know what to do!!!
Well I believe that Damon went over to the dark side & he may fight his way back to Mystic Falls & into Elena’s heart but Stefan is there & Elena still has feelings for Stefan. I’m looking forward to read the book as long as my favorite witch Bonnie McCullough is in the book & I hope there may be a romantic spark between them!
WHAT? HOW? WHY? did L. J Smith not write it self? she’s like the GOD og The Vampire Diaries!!!! so why the hell is someone else doing her job ? that’s just really stupid, irretating!!!! and unpro.!!! i’m so angry right now!!

100% DELENA! I hope the ghost writer does not screw it up! I was thinking since the characters of the books belong to L.J. Smith- they came from her imagination after all- why can’t she write her OWN VERSION of the ENDING she envisioned?! If I were her, I would go to court to defend my rights as the author who started the whole story in the first place.Bottomline, LJ SMITH IS TVD! Anyone else agree with me?
… I prefer the Stefan’s Diaries series… Finished The Hunters this morning and honestly, it’s kinda terrible.
@amanda, without giving too much away, in what way is it terrible? Is it Stale-ena centric or Delena-centric?
Well, I’m French and I just read the 9 first chapters for free. and I really can’t wait for the book! I hope I’ll be able to buy in tomorrow in Paris!
About the writer… I’ve read few months ago that Phantom has been written by LJ Smith. Maybe I’m wrong but I hope so not! :/
I am not going to read the book because it was not written by L.J Smith. It just feels wrong to continue reading the books when they changed writer. L.J Smith should be allowed to continue to write The Vampire Diaries!
I broke up with the books after reading number 5 where these wicked japanese-ghost-freaks truned up. I liked the original stories of L.J.Smith very much and am also a big Delena-shipper.
But I can’t stand the rumor that the author has to write what her publishing company wants her to. That feels extremley wrong to me, sorry.
There’s no magic at all after Book 5 and that’s why I probably never EVER will buy one of those new books. And after Damon is dead now… well; what else to say? He was my favourite character. With him gone, there’s no joy to read further anyway.

@ Lily u r right this is written by L.J. Smith they did that with alot of books. Hey guys, what they do is the first book Awakening was written in 1964. I have not the original one but the a book that was written them. What they are doing is re-publishing the books she already has written. This one is new like it wasn’t written till recently but L.J. still had input in this. OTHERWISE it wouldn’t be good. and i have read the first 9 chapters and now it’s like a teaser were i read it but i NEED more.

DAMON ISN”T FLIPPING DEAD! jez! okay when Elena destroyed everything she killed the star-ball the star-ball had sooooo much power that the droplets landed on Damon and he came back but it’s hard to do with tree stuck in you. He just needs to heal. AND btw if u were a REAL Delena fan you would like the return books cause that’s were Delena really starts to shape and become Delena. so READ the books!
@Claudia I know the return series, but I dislike the story board so I broke up after a while of reading. Ain’t my style of a thrilling fiction…
So … well… that’s my opinion, just leave it there. And I feel no need to buy me the new books at all.

@Susy – After reading that this was not written by the orig author, it makes since now why I didn’t care for it. In this one, Elena’s pretty much right in the middle line of Stelana/Delena… but thats not what I didnt care for. I was just not impressed by the story line – seemed a bit like an afterschool special message. I feel like since the human characters are getting older, the story line needs to mature too. But thats just me…
I finished this book last night and it just outright fizzles out. You can tell it wasn’t completely written by LJ. I really hope this Ghostwriter gets her sh*t together cause this blew. I don’t even know if I’ll bother to buy the next book. It was THAT disappointing. Well, that’s what happens when you screw with a great series by dumping it’s creator. I have never been so angry and disappointed finishing one of these books.. Just so terribly written.
@amanda, thank you for the heads-up. I agree that the story should also mature as do the characters. I’ll probably feel disappointed with story too since LJ Smith didn’t actually write it. I think that sucks!
Did anyone else see @cadlymack’s twitter about the upcoming episode featuring the homecoming dance? She said Elena goes with someone, but it’s not Stefan… I’m thinking Damon is too old to attend a school function as a date. Leaves me to wonder if it’s Matt?
@amanda, I don’t know where I saw it, but I think I saw Elena walking arm-in-arm with Damon into a place with other couples. I’m not sure if it was on a promo on youtube.
@amanda, I just checked. It is the cw promo for TVD and TSC titled “stay for dessert”. It is on youtube. Elena and Damon walking arm-in-arm, but it flashes quickly. Damon is wearing a black shirt and Elena has on a white/beige dress. Check it out! It looks like a homecoming dance.
If you looked closely between the lines at the end of Midnight, you’ll know Damon is coming back..

spent two days reading… My bf was happy to play his video game the whole time.

I know its a ghost writer but i think that who ever it was did a good job continuing the series. Wish the book was longer, and maybe lead a bit more into the next book but i enjoyed it. Its worth picking up.
@ Marlaina K im so glad to hear that Damon comes back but im wondering who he’ll end up with. I kinda want him to end up with Bonnie not Elena. i dont know why but it just seems right i suppose……..
