Are sitting down, fang fans? Because we have some awesome news to announce — you know, the kind that might have you fainting from all the sheer excitement! According to E! Online, Mark Pedowitz, president of The CW, has revealed that a few crossovers are in the works for The Vampire Diaries Season 6 and The Originals Season 2. The network leader told reporters at the event that, “when it is organic, we’ll do a couple of crossovers.” He previewed, “There will be some aspect of Mystic Falls this year that will make it difficult, as the season ended last year, for the supernatural characters get in.”
Better yet, executive producer Julie bolstered his comments at San Diego Comic-Con 2014! Despite the logistical hardships crossover appearances create, she confirmed that the creative teams on both shows are currently brainstorming ways to dovetail some of their more enticing sub plots. “Yes, we’re always taking about different paths we can take to bring different characters from one show to another,” Julie explained. “We’re talking about stories right now even as we speak.”
First of all, hooray! Ever since Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) appeared in New Orleans to kidnap Hayley and challenge his sire to a duel during the first season of The Originals Season 1, and Klaus returned to Mystic Falls to sex up Caroline Forbes good and proper in TVD’s 100th episode, we’ve been craving crossovers like you wouldn’t believe. Not only do such episodes reunite major players from both supernatural dramas, but they’re also packed with hardcore showdowns and sexy action!
And although Mark Pedowitz didn’t exactly come out and say that Klaus and Caroline might soon be meeting up, the fact that he followed the crossover discussion up with how Care Bear and her bloodsucking pals are going to be vagrants when TVD Season 6 starts up makes us extra suspicious. With the magical Traveler border still intact and our beloved vamps essentially banned from their family homes in Mystic Falls, we wouldn’t be too shocked to see them visit old friends (and flames) and get some traveling in while they can. Moreover, Klaus, who had to fake his daughter’s death, bid his sister Rebekah adieu, and will soon find himself head-to-head in battle with his two lunatic parents (both back from the dead), is in desperate need of immense emotional support. And what better therapy than Caroline’s bright smile and pleasant demeanor to pluck him right out of his state of depression? Seriously.
Either way, the storylines on each show open up a huge window of opportunities, and we can’t wait to see what the writers have in storm for us! That said, what sort of crossover is at the top of your wish list in regards to The Vampire Diaries Season 6 and The Originals Season 2? Sound off in the comments!
Update 8/20/2014: Julie Plec has confirmed that a crossover is definitely happening and that it won’t involve Alaric even if the idea off Matt Davis hanging out with fellow originals Klaus and Elijah is pretty darn amazing! Here’s a snippet courtesy of Entertainment Weekly: “It looks like we are going to be able to do a crossover in the first half of the season, and I can’t tell you what or who or when because it hasn’t been shot yet, but things are looking good.”
